About me
I'm a native of Washington, DC, and the Columbia Heights neighborhood. I started my health and fitness journey as a young child. I have two older brothers who were always active and very competitive. Keeping up with them was a constant challenge, whether running from our house to school, riding our bikes or playing football. Up through my teenage years, every situation was competitive when I was around my brothers and friends.
When I went to college, however, my activity level decreased. I was no longer around my active family and friends. Little by little, the pounds started to accumulate, although I was able to maintain my weight for the most part. After college, I entered the world of office work by way of the insurance business. My average work week was 50 plus hours, leaving me with less time for physical activity and increasing my stress levels. Before I knew it, I had gained an excessive amount of weight and did not have the energy or drive to take care of myself. I ate out for almost every meal, and it usually was fast food.
One day in 2004, I went to the doctor for my annual physical. I found out that I was obese and at borderline risk for cardiovascular disease. That was the turning point for me. I started out with baby steps. I began to eat more nutritious foods and take longs walks. Little by little, the weight started to come off. I kept increasing my physical activity level and eating healthily. By mid-2005, I had lost over 70 pounds. It could have taken me less time to lose this weight had I invested in professional assistance, such as a personal trainer and dietician. Since then, I've kept the weight off, and my physical appearance has transformed. My success with a healthy and active lifestyle gave me the passion to inspire others to reach their physical goals. My new lifestyle is why I'm a fitness trainer today. I believe that if I can do it, anyone can. It starts out with motivation and taking those small steps to achieve the big goal in mind.
